Robyn Reynolds has spent more than 30 years creating beautiful things. Best known across New Zealand for her distinctive women’s clothing, Robyn has built a loyal following through designs that combine comfort, colour, and timeless style.
Today, from her home studio in Nelson, Robyn continues to create her signature clothing pieces while turning more of her creative energy toward another long-standing passion — painting.
A career in fashion
Robyn’s journey into fashion began later in life, but once discovered, it quickly became her calling. After gaining experience as a machinist and spending time overseas, Robyn returned to New Zealand and began designing and selling clothing at local markets.
Over the years her designs developed a devoted following. Known for classic shapes, flattering fits, and vibrant colours, Robyn’s garments are made to help women feel confident and comfortable in what they wear.
Her collections often feature natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, rayon, merino and denim, chosen for their quality, texture, and ease of wear. Many customers have been wearing Robyn Reynolds clothing for years, returning for pieces that feel both special and effortlessly wearable.
A growing love of art
Alongside her work in fashion, painting has always been an important creative outlet for Robyn. In recent years it has become a bigger focus, giving her space to explore colour, texture, and emotion in a completely different way.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Robyn enjoys experimenting with layers, mark-making, and texture. She often uses spatulas, fingers, scratching techniques and layered brushwork to create movement and depth within her paintings.
Faces and abstract forms frequently appear in her work, guided more by instinct than strict rules.
Robyn believes creativity shouldn’t be perfectly controlled. Her paintings embrace what she calls “the art of mess” — allowing energy, spontaneity and emotion to shape the final piece.
